The Bexley Public Library has seen many changes since its beginnings in 1924.
Housed in Bexley High School, now Montrose Elementary School, the community soon saw a need for a stand-alone library building.
In 1927, voters approved a $68,000 bond issue for the construction of a new library. The architects, O.C. Miller and R.R. Reeves, used as their inspiration 17th Century French and Italian designs.

Through succeeding years, the building along with its contents and programs have expanded. In 1974, Mary T. Zimmerman, library director, stated, “In the early days, the library was a place where books were stored. Now … it is a culture center where civic and educational groups meet.”

Bexley Public Library continues to be a beloved part of the community – a center for lifelong learning,
community gatherings and cultural experiences.
