By the time the family reached this resting point, they had traveled 21 days and 254 miles in a Conestoga Wagon on the National Road.

Son Marion can be seen getting water from Alum Creek while his sister Eleanor and brother Charles wait their turn. The family is preparing a meal.

Many years after this event, Marion Meneffee’s granddaughter, Augusta Meneffee Huntington, related the stories her grandfather told about his family’s journey and drinking water from Alum Creek.
