My parents bought a house at 1054 Grandon Avenue about 1940. If I remember right, Dad said it cost $12,000.
After my grandmother died, c. 1946, my Dad brought his father to live with us for a while.
To make my grandpa feel more at home, farm-wise, Dad bought the vacant lot next door to us, which became our “farm” in the city. Corn, beans, tomatoes and such other things were planted so that grandpa would have something to do.
