When: Sunday, March 23 from 1:30-3:00 p.m.
Start and End: The Caretaker’s Cottage, 2080 Clifton Avenue, Bexley OH
Bullitt Park Addition
The Bullitt Park Addition, a 250 acre development platted in 1893, was created to provide “country houses for gentlemen”. The property was acquired and developed by two Philadelphia investors John Christian Bullitt and Anthony J Drexel (one of the richest men of his time). Extending both north and south of East Broad Street, the layout of the development included park spaces, carriage lanes and brick streets. The houses that were constructed were indeed magnificent and set the tone for further development eastward – that then became the Village, then the City of Bexley.

The Jeffrey Mansion
The most magnificent of all the “country estates” was the Jeffrey Mansion – an exquisite Jacobean house constructed between 1903 and 1905 on a 40 acre property. Today, the mansion and grounds are owned by the City of Bexley and is home to the Bexley Recreation and Parks Department.
The Bus Tour
The bus tour of the Bullitt Park Addition will highlight key early planning and architectural features, notable early Columbus families and current preservation practices to conserve its historic character. You will be able to imagine what life was like being a new resident in your “country estate” and the excitement of living within a newly created community.
